The 1,500-staff-strong business headquartered in Warrington provides design, fabrication and installation of mechanical, electrical, HVAC and other building services.

It was created from a management buyout from East Midlands Electricity in 1994 then named Boulting Group, and has steadily grown to operate from 14 locations across the UK, including regional offices and three off-site manufacturing facilities.

Earlier this year it bagged the largest contract in the firm’s history worth £84m for electrical and instrumentation work over four years at Hinkley Point nuclear power station.

As a diversified firm, it also manufacture of low voltage switchgear and modules.

This latest acquisition will enable M Group Services to accelerate the development of its technical engineering solutions offering to the energy, water, telecom and transport sectors, as well as expanding into new markets already served by BGEN.

BGEN’s nationwide network of offices provide critical technical engineering solutions to a range of clients including National Grid, Thames Water, Scottish Water, and Anglian Water, which also have long-term partnerships with M Group Services.

Three subsidiaries of BGEN – BES, Norwood and BFP – which provide fully integrated engineering services, are also part of the acquisition.

Andrew Findlay, M Group Services’ chief executive, said: “BGEN is a business with a long trading heritage and an excellent reputation and culture that aligns with our own.

“The acquisition of BGEN significantly enhances the technical engineering capability of M Group Services, significantly deepening our ability to provide expert solutions for our existing clients and broad range of new clients, for today and in the future.

“Together we are even better placed to support the energy transition to net zero, leading the way to support essential infrastructure that is continually adapting to a rapidly changing world.”
